Suzanne Banning

Houston, TX

Artist's Bio:

Born in 1973 in Hengelo, The Netherlands, Suzanne received her BFA in 1998 from the Art Academy in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Since July 2000 she lives and works in Houston, Texas.

For a long time, Suzanne has been intrigued by the visual effect of movement in photography and, by constantly experimenting, developed her own personal process to capture reality in a new way.

In one of her first shows, a national exhibition juried by Marysol Nieves (Senior Curator, Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York), she was awarded First Prize. Since settling in Houston Suzanne has been part of over 20 juried and curated group shows, including several Visual Arts Alliance Shows (juried by Sharon Kopriva, Marysol Nieves, Clint Willour and Polly Hammett) and two “Assistance League Celebrates Texas Art” exhibitions (Williams Tower Gallery, Houston, 2002 & 2003). In addition, her work was featured at: the Wheeler Bro’s Studios (Lubbock, TX), the Dishman Art Gallery (Beaumont, TX), the Lowell Collins Gallery (Houston, TX), the Redbud Gallery (Houston, TX) and the Art League (Houston, TX). Recently Gus Kopriva, owner of the Redbud Gallery, offered her her first solo show at his gallery in the Houston Heights, scheduled in June 2004.
