Artist's Statement:

Earth as a sacred place is the theme of the paintings. The painting images should evoke feelings both religious and sensuous, and seem to occur in a surreal place. The world is in its primordial untainted state in the paintings. In the painting landscapes natural things such as trees, rocks, clouds are used in artificial yet natural looking settings. The perspective is emphasized giving the viewer the feeling of being able to step into the landscapes. The flora as opposed to fauna is the focus in the works. Enchanted gardens is what the paintings should communicate, the artwork is essentially romantic.

The paintings are produced using oil over acrylic on canvas. The acrylic paint is used as a foundation because of its quick drying it can be used to design and to easily rework the painting in its early stages when there is still uncertainty about the composition. The oil paints are used to produce the rich jewel-tone colors. Fine tuning is what oil paint also has excellent capacity for, oil paint is much more malleable than acrylics. Alkyd resins are mixed into the oil paints and transparent and opaque glazes are applied over the acrylic paints. Good lighting is important when displaying the paintings to give the glazes the ability to produce the stained glass-like effect.
