Artist's Statement:
What I express in my paintings is borne out of my deepest feelings and impulses which are forever changing and growing. As my paintings move toward abstraction, the rules begin to change. Not only do the color choices become more arbitrary, but spatial relationships are also manipulated expressively. Painting is an escape where I am totally free to create without boundaries.
Gradually as I paint, images and shapes start to appear; I am drawn in to explore these areas of my imagination and develop each to my satisfaction. Eventually, the piece melds together and a story evolves. I want the viewer to look inward and explore the depths and complexity of the piece.
The titles of my paintings are often hints as to my personal emotions or reactions toward the painting. It is my hope that the title will not limit the viewer in his or her own experience. I hope the viewer allows themselves the freedom either to relate or go beyond and find their own interpretation.
Artist's Bio:
Houston artist Margaret Colvin gives focus to her creative side by viewing the world in an abstract way. Margaret has been painting professionally for over a decade, and considers herself trained through experience. Studying art has given her the ability and challenge to discover and expand her technique.
Margaret has a distinctive style expressed in acrylics and oil pastels. Her paintings offer vibrant energy to their surroundings, from bold and colorful abstracts to electric collages. Her paintings are in distinguished corporate and private collections throughout Texas. She is represented by Darke Gallery and has an on-going exhibit at Palazzo’s River Oaks and Westchase.
