Artist's Statement:
The Classic still life genre implies a conversation between the objects and the viewer. This conversation might speak to memory, to personal identity or perhaps to a metaphor for global ideas such as the subject of life and death in the vanitas tradition. I use the still life fromat to create a pictoral fiction. The characters in the story are distorted to suggest but not define the expected still life subject matter. I am examining a world of artiface and make believe that may turn dark and strange. The objects shine & flash, tip & push, reflecting & reacting against each other. However, I subvert the clich?s and banalities that are often associated with the traditional still life to suggest that the curious inhabitants of my stage have a quirky story to tell.
