Artist's Statement:
By integrating my work within a specific space, a personal environment is created that unites the space, elements of the work, and the viewer. Within this environment, I want to create a sense of fantasy and playfulness. Some of the work is derived from my own ideas of success and grandeur. These ideas can range from daydreams of seaside cottages or simply seeing my name plastered on a wall, both happily feed my ego and imagination. The use of common materials to provoke the feelings of satisfaction and self -indulgence were realized from the harsh reality of trying to make it big on a small budget. By incorporating and manipulating these particularly low-end materials I want the viewer to relax and make their own associations within each environment. Providing a comfortable seat for the viewer allows for escape outside of the traditional gallery setting and into a hopeful atmosphere of dreams and desires.
