Artist's Statement:
Historic sculpture is nearly inseparable from the logic of the monument, i.e., commemorative representation. When sculpture absorbed its base and became nomadic with abstracted form and content, a space was created where I might explore the meanings of base, monument, figuration and architecture/not-architecture; and the forms that my personal experience and expression might take.
My work is a synthesis of my experiences in the modern and postmodern world, my varied formal education, professional practices of health care and architecture, love of the human figure, and a fascination with the grid and with urban life. I am most interested in exploring that place where the human condition and the built environment intersect, and creating a visual sentiment in which the viewer may find a new understanding of that interaction.
