Artist's Statement:
The mad toymaker has returned. Steve Ruth creates wild, zany, misfit, concoctions of all forms and fashion. Returning to the Houston area after a 2 year vacation in the deserts of Las Vegas, Steve is reopening his island of misfits. Steve?s work has run the gamut in the arts, everything from avant-garde dance to landscape paintings can be found in his repertoire. Most of the pieces address issues of language and narrative while still others focus on surface, finish, and abstraction. This fertile mix of wit and way has created a plethora of conceptually dynamic oddities. These wunderkammins are running amuck on the island of misfit and in the world at large. They need to find loving homes to settle them down and put in their place. Look for Steve?s unique oddities to pop here and there in the Houston area as the grand narrative unfolds and the island of misfit reaches critical mass.
