Artist's Statement:
After studying art at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas, and the University of Texas, Austin, Texas from 1967 to 1970 and finally at the Artists? Alliance in Houston, Texas with artist, Shalle Cozac Haviv, where I learned the American Luminist technique, I realized there is always more to learn about paining.
I began exhibiting and selling my paintings while still in college. It is somewhat like giving birth and then launching your progeny into the world.
My father's drawings and paintings with watercolor are probably the inspiration for the beginning of my interest in art. My first art class in high school sparked additional interest that led to my destination to major in art in college.
I always admired what an artist can create with a paintbrush in different mediums as somewhat magical. Especially how they can make a scene or object look so realistic. I wanted to be able to do that as it was a challenge. I paint in the stylistic manner. I love to paint people and buildings in colorful European and Mexican scenes. When I travel, I photograph scenes I want to paint. I prefer vibrant colors and intricate detail. The more detailed the painting, the more challenging and, therefore enjoyable. My life in art is both the dream and the reality for me.
