Artist's Statement:
Beginning at a young age, I realized that art was my calling. After an art education and professional pursuits in graphic arts, I have come
full circle, returning to my inherent love of painting and drawing. Through my introspective works, I endeavor to reflect a whimsical,
playful sense of self and my perceptions. My inspiration comes from children's artwork, dream imagery and the often-overlooked personal
experiences and observations of everyday life, many of which have been recalled from my childhood. Because my works are grounded in
illustration and graphics, my pieces begin with a figure, object or narrative. Thanks to my professional experience as a graphic designer, I focus on the importance of images with unique identities that are able to convey distinct messages. Naturally inquisitive and eager to experiment, I often combine several disciplines, including oils, acrylics, pencils, charcoal, pastels and collage, in mixed-media executions. Such experimentation has allowed me to remain curious, while facing the challenge of personal expression in ever-evolving forms. With each work, I invite the viewer to look first into simplicity and then beyond, ultimately opening the door to deeper impressions.
