Artist's Statement:
I create multi-layered expressions using canvas, acrylics, textured glass and various types of wires. I obtain the glass from a local professional glass shop where they cut and drill holes in the glass for me upon my instructions and drawings. I make most of the canvases myself and occasionally will buy them pre-made.
I have visions that correlate with the struggles of personal growth, social awareness and Jungian psychology then transform into shapes and colors. Sometimes I feel the need to sketch them out, others I just start painting then decide what shape, texture and placement is best for the glass and what color and type of wire will be used to give the final layer of the completed work.
I usually have an idea of what I am trying to express before I begin, but sometimes I just know what shapes and color I want to use and then the final step is realizing what my mind was seeing that is a part of my everyday reality.
I believe the wire wrapping of the glass is completely action expression, as most of the time I do not know how it is going to look when I am done but somewhere in the middle I know how it will end up.
Occasionally I do not use glass to complete the vision and this places me in two categories, painting and 2-D Mixed Media.
Many of the styles I work with are experimental, as I am a self-taught student of the world. Through series of works I hope to solve the questions that began the vision.
