Artist's Statement:
Earlier in my career, I spent several years as a daily comic strip cartoonist. While I enjoyed the challenge, I realized that I needed to work with fewer restrictions. I desired the freedom to expand my ideas while not being confined to the postage stamp size of a comic strip reproduction or a daily deadline.
In my paintings, I'm interested in negotiating between representation and abstraction while including cartoonish narratives. Have you ever laughed during a cold shower? This is the duality I strive for in my work.
